December 2009

It was a busy month, as usual. Doing the regular stuff plus getting ready for Christmas. S had her first orchestra concert and even got to play in an ensemble. M had a chorus concert and went on a field trip to sing with the Jefferson Singers (an audition chorus group) at the mall.

We saw Santa a couple times. The first was at the ward party. You may have noticed from our family picture with Santa that B was in K’s arms instead of on Santa’s lap

. She was afraid of Santa. By the next week when Santa came for a personal visit at our house, she was much braver and sat next to him (although still wouldn’t sit on his lap). I guess she decided that he was okay considering that she got to ask him for a toy (in her case, a unicorn).

A few days before Christmas, it snowed several inches. It was a sunny day and temperatures were in the low 30s so we decided to go sledding (we haven’t gone since we lived here). We went to a nice hill near a friend’s house (they happened to be there) and had a wonderful time sledding. B was the bravest - going down (and most times up) all by herself. She even insisted on going over the jump….and loved it! S was also quite brave; she even tried a snowboard.

Christmas was nice. M & S got up at 3:30am to see their presents, then after about an hour, decided they were too tired to stay up and went back to bed for a couple hours. Christmas day was warm enough that about half the snow melted and we had a somewhat green Christmas. The next day it snowed about 8 inches and we haven’t seen the ground since.

A few days after Christmas the youth had an activity playing whirlyball. It looked like a lot of fun. (I didn’t play because it would have hurt my back too much.) M really enjoyed it, although she ended up with quite a few bruises.
