We had 2 sets of missionaries (we thought it was going to be 3 sets) over for Easter dinner between sessions of conference. I actually got to serve ham....which ended up too salty (oh, well).
S’s allergies have really been bothering her this spring. Red itchy eyes, sneezing, etc. I ended up taking her to the doctor who prescribed eye drops and told her to take Claritin or Zyrtec (an adult dose) every day. It has really helped.
We’ve had some trouble with S & M not getting their homework done on time or as well as we thought they should have done....so we’ve had to watch them more closely. Also S has been fighting not to do piano anymore, and we may let her quit, but only if she can learn to ride a bike.
M had her 13 year check up. She is 5 feet 2 inches (58th percentile) and 123 lbs (82nd percentile).
M was recently in the spring musical at her school, The Music Man. She played a teenager in the ensemble. She even had a solo in one of the songs. She did a really good job.
We have been getting estimates on finishing the basement, converting the playroom to a bedroom, and having some landscaping done in the side yard, but.....
The shower in M’s bathroom has been leaking and getting the baseboard just outside the shower wet (and moldy) for quite some time (perhaps a year). Back in April, M noticed a 2 inch mushroom growing out of the wall. K tore off the baseboard and found a lot of moisture. We had a handyman come to investigate the problem and he ended up tearing out the bottom half of her shower, including some of the floor tiles and finding about ½ gallon of standing water (this cost about $1500). It’s still torn apart and we are getting estimates for getting it fixed. It looks to be quite expensive, considering that we can no longer get identical tiles.
I have been busy with Young Women’s activities, preparing for camp (we did not get a camp director this year), and teaching lessons.
We had a fun visit with my brother K & K & kids at the beginning of May. M really enjoyed playing with the babies while the adults and older kids (K’s brother & family came as well) were at the Cubs game. S helped a little with the babies and B even let one sit on her lap (just long enough for a quick picture).
The day after they left, Dad, Mom, & Kevin’s mom came into town. The following day Dad, Mom, Kevin, & I left for London leaving Kevin’s mom in charge of the girls for the week. We had a fun trip, decent weather, and really enjoyed the sights. The only trouble we got from the erupting volcano was a couple hours delay on our return trip.
The rest of May flew by as the girls finished up school (May 27th was their last day). So far, they are not used to being home together so much (and with free time), so we’ve had fighting every day. A couple weeks ago McKenzie joined me in a flute duet at church. It think it turned out well. Today McKenzie was supposed to march with the junior high band in the Memorial Day parade, but about 20 minutes into the parade there was a thunderstorm, the parade was cancelled, and McKenzie got soaked.
